The gas main marker tape provides a visual warning in the trench and helps prevent damage from third-party contractors. Should be used when open-cut techniques are employed, including excavations for service connections, main connections repair activities, and other maintenance activities. This is meant to help minimise the risk of interference damage. The marker tape should be placed at a convenient depth between the backfill and sub-base layers in the road or footpath.
